Here you can find a little bit about what options you have when it comes to ordering a custom knife-
Blade shape, size, and overall design-
When you contact me about a custom knife, we'll start off with designing the shape and size of your knife. You can pick something similar to what I've made in the past, or we can work together on designing your knife. This is where you decide what kind of knife you want (camping, hunting, EDC, etc) if you want a lanyard hole, texture/contour of the handle, things like that. Basically we create the blueprint for your knife. This will also include the grind you prefer.* (full flat, saber, hollow, compound) I'll send you a proof for you to approve before I start any work. *I do not currently offer scandi grinds.
Choice of steel-
I can build your custom from whatever steel you prefer. If you're not familiar with the different knife steels, we can discuss what you want in a blade and which steel will be best for you.
Handle and pin material-
If prefer micarta, stabilized wood, and G10 for scales. G10 pins are good with G10 scales. Brass, copper, and stainless steel pins look good with micarta and stabilized wood. If you have any questions about handle materials I'll answer these so you can decide what is best for your knife. You'll also need to decide if you want any liners or bolsters. If you prefer the look of screws instead of pins, I can do that too.
Blade finish-
I offer a midnight finish, battle worn finish, acid wash finish, and hand rubbed satin finish. By request I can also Cerakote your blade in the color or pattern of your choice. On my newer blades the midnight finish is very durable and resists scratches and also protects against rust. This looks similar to a gun blue. The battle worn finish is the most durable because it hides scratches- after being etched it is lightly sanded and tumbled in rocks. The acid wash is similar to the battle worn finish but it will be darker and thus may show some scratches with use. If you choose to have pins instead of handle screws, the battle worn and acid wash finishes will have a satin finish on the spine and tang of the knife. The satin finish is done by hand and gives a nice, clean, classic look. With use, you may see some scratches in certain lighting.
Sheath material-
I offer kydex (a moldable plastic) and leather sheaths. Kydex is very modular and carry options can be switched out easily down the line. Kydex sheaths always come with a length of paracord and cord toggle in addition to whatever mounting option you choose. You can get soft loops, a tek-lok, and other mounts with kydex. Kydex is known to scratch blades while sheathing and unsheathing the knife so you should keep that in mind. Leather is very kind to the finish of the blade but you will only have one way to carry the blade.
If you have questions on anything else regarding a custom, please use the contact page and I will be happy to answer.
